About

One family, two problems, the same standards.

Why Not Own It puts people into work cars they end up owning. Why Not Sell It buys cars from people who just want them gone without the circus. Same people behind both, same way of doing things.

Why this exists

Private sellers get a rough deal, and dealers need good stock

Selling a car privately is unpaid work — photos, listings, messages that go nowhere, strangers in your driveway. Trading it in is faster but the number gets buried inside the deal for your next car, so you never really know what it was worth on its own. Meanwhile, dealers across South East Queensland are always looking for good, honestly represented cars to put in front of their own customers. Why Not Sell It sits in the middle: we buy the car properly and quickly from you, and it goes on to a dealer who needs it. Everyone in that chain gets treated fairly, or the model doesn't work.

Christian

Christian is a licensed Queensland motor dealer who has personally handled somewhere between six hundred and seven hundred private vehicle purchases. He buys for a network of dealers across the region, which means he has to be right about a car's condition and value far more often than he can afford to be wrong. Every offer that goes out from Why Not Sell It has been made by him — not generated, not estimated, made.

What that means for you

It means the person deciding what to pay for your car has actually done this hundreds of times, for a living, with his own licence on the line. It also means there's a real person to talk to if something about the offer doesn't make sense to you — not a support queue, not a chatbot pretending otherwise.

How we treat people

A straight answer, no pressure, no obligation

You'll get a plain answer about what we can offer and why. You won't get a countdown timer, a manufactured sense of urgency, or a second, lower offer if you don't reply to the first one. You can stop the conversation at any point — before you've played the garage, after you've got an offer, even after you've said yes but before anything's been paid — and that's genuinely fine. We'd rather do fewer deals honestly than more deals by wearing people down.

The technology, honestly

We built a fast way to tell us about your car. We didn't build a machine that decides what to pay for it.

The garage — the guided, game-like way you can describe your car and take your photos on our home page — exists to make the intake part quick and, frankly, a bit more pleasant than filling in a form. It asks good questions in the right order and it's automated: there's no person on the other end while you're playing it. But it stops there. Once your details land with us, a licensed dealer takes over, looks at the actual car, and makes the actual decision. The technology gets your information to the right place quickly. It doesn't set the number.

Part of the Why Not family

Why Not Own It helps people move into a work car and end up owning it outright. Why Not Sell It is the other side of that same coin — we buy the cars people are ready to let go of, so good vehicles keep moving to the people who need them. Same standards, same people, different day of the week.
