Privacy Policy
Last updated 1 August 2026. This explains what we collect when you use Why Not Sell It, why, and what you can do about it, in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
Depending on how you get in touch, we may collect:
- Your name and mobile number, so we can send you an offer and follow up on it.
- Vehicle details — rego, VIN, make, model, kilometres, condition and history.
- Photos of your vehicle, including photos taken while you play the garage on our website. We strip embedded location data (GPS metadata) from photos when they're uploaded.
- The content of conversations you have with us, whether that's through the garage, SMS, phone or email.
- If you accept an offer: identification details, bank details for payment, and finance payout information where relevant.
Why we collect it
We use this information to review your vehicle and decide on an offer, to communicate with you about that offer, to complete the sale paperwork if you accept, and to meet our legal obligations as a licensed motor dealer, including PPSR checks and statutory record-keeping.
Who we share it with
We may share your information with:
- Dealers we sell vehicles on to, limited to what's needed to complete that sale.
- Government registries and services we're required to check or notify, such as the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) and vehicle registration authorities.
- Our SMS and email service providers, who send messages on our behalf.
- Financiers, where a payout needs to be confirmed and settled as part of a sale.
We don't sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Storage and retention
Information is stored securely with providers based in Australia or with providers offering equivalent protections. We keep records for as long as we're required to under Queensland motor dealer record-keeping obligations, and for a reasonable period after that in case questions arise about a past transaction. After that, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we're not required to keep it. If you think we've mishandled your information, contact us first using the details below — see also our complaints page. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
Marketing and opting out
We may send occasional marketing messages by SMS or email. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to a text or using the unsubscribe link in an email. Opting out of marketing doesn't affect messages we need to send you about an active offer or sale.
Cookies and analytics
We keep our use of cookies and analytics to a minimum — enough to understand whether the site is working, nothing that builds an advertising profile of you.
